Personnel Policy

The Case Memorial Library will comply with all Personnel policies of the Town of Orange as are currently in effect or amended. Union contracts will also rule some additional benefits due to the library employees of those unions. In addition, the following benefits and requirements shall be in effect for library personnel:

EMERGENCY CLOSINGS: Decisions concerning the closing of the library due to weather or natural disasters will be made by the Library Director for Saturdays and after 4:30 PM on weekdays (when Town Hall is closed). Part time staff members who have already reported for work will be guaranteed 3 hours of pay. Those whose shift is cancelled may be given the chance to reschedule lost hours at another time during the week. Every effort will be made to make a Saturday decision before 9:30 AM and evening decisions by 4:30 PM.

COMPENSATION FOR MEAL TIME:
Because of minimal staffing levels on Saturdays and supper time on weekdays, we require that employees be scheduled through these times and therefore may not leave that library. Because you may be called back to work during these meal breaks if traffic warrants, you will be paid for such meal breaks. This does not apply to regular lunch times on weekdays. Time sheets will be filled in to show continuous hours of work at such times. (i.e. Saturday 10 AM – 4 PM)

ATTENDANCE AT MEETINGS, CONFERENCES AND CONTINUING EDUCATION: Employees will be encouraged to attend such meetings as may be relevant to their positions, as the staff schedule permits, and at the discretion of the Library Director. Mileage will be paid according to the prevailing town rates and fees and membership may be paid as the budget permits.

(Approved by the Library Commission May 18, 1995)
