Borrowing Policies

Registration

* Any resident of Orange may become a borrower by providing proof of residence that includes name and Orange address, such as a driver’s license or a utility bill. Parents must accompany children applying for library cards.
* A borrower should present his/her own card whenever materials are checked out.
* Cards are valid for three (3) years and may be used at other public libraries in Connecticut. Residents of other Connecticut towns must have current library cards from their home town libraries in order to borrow materials.
* Upon registration, borrowers agree to comply with all library rules, promptly pay fines or damage charges, and give notice of change of address. Borrowers are responsible for all materials borrowed on their cards.
* Individuals must be 18 years old or older in order to borrow videos or DVDs from the adult collection.

* Nonfiction books are limited to six (6) per subject. Otherwise, there are no limits on the number of books charged out.
* Videos and DVD's are each limited to six (6) at a time per family.
* Compact discs are limited to six (6) at a time.
* Recorded books are limited to six (6) at a time.
* Items that are on reserve for other library patrons may not be renewed.
* There are no refunds on items that have been lost and paid for.
* A $1.00 replacement fee will be charged for a lost library card.
* Assessments for damaged materials will be made by the Library Director.
* Materials damaged beyond repair will be charged the library’s purchase price. There is no processing fee.
* You may renew materials one time only, in person, by phone, or online. (Online renewal is unavailable for patrons who have items overdue or fines outstanding.) To renew materials online, please proceed to our catalog and log in.

Home Service

* Any Orange resident unable to get to the library on a regular basis may request Books for the Homebound service. Library materials will be delivered and picked up courtesy of the Friends of the Library.

Confidentiality
* The library complies with Sec. 11-25(b) of the General Statutes of Connecticut pertaining to the confidentiality of circulation records.
