Renewals expanded
Effective August 19, 2009,
you can now renew library materials twice instead of once. The renewal
procedures, online and per telephone with your library card, and in person
remain the same. Items that are not renewable, e.g. museum passes, remain
the same. As before, if there is a hold on an item, it cannot be
renewed.
Library Catalog has been
upgraded
The Library's LEAP
catalog was upgraded on July 31, 2009. There are
now cover images for many items, and when you click on the image, you can get
reviews and table of contents for many. Try it out: www.Leap-catalog.leaplibraries.org
Book a Librarian
Don't know your way around the Library? Would you like a personal
tour of the Library? Not sure how to use the Library's computerized
catalog? Do you need help locating information on a specific topic?
Reference Librarian, Nancy Haag, is offering 30-minute one-on-one sessions to
help with your library information interests. Time slots are available on
Thursday afternoons at 2:00 and 2:30. Sign up at the
Reference Desk or call the Library at 239-5803.
Playaways
Library has recently added Playaways to the audiobook collection. Able to fit in your hand and
small enough to fit in a pocket, the Playaway
provides the full text of a book without the bother of changing cassettes or
CDs in a player, or of downloading titles. Powered by one AAA battery and
using a standard earbud, you control the playing
functions of the unit with the touch of a button. All the regular
functions (play, rewind, fast forward, stop, and pause) are easily accessed on
the Playaway unit. Listeners may slow down or
speed up the narration, and may change the reader’s pitch and tone. Selections
for both the Adult and Children’s collections have been purchased.
Featured titles include The Kite Runner, Water for Elephants, Secret
Life of Bees, Playing for Pizza, Angels and Demons, One
for the Money, and Roots. Among the children’s selections will
be found The Penderwicks, Chasing
Vermeer, The Shakespeare Stealer, The Sea of Trolls, and The
Midwife’s Apprentice. The units accept standard headphones.
The library offers earbuds for sale for those users
who do not have their own. Playaway
titles may be borrowed for four weeks.
