Local History East Haven, Connecticut
On November 24th, 1638, Reverend James Davenport, Theophilus Eaton and others purchased land from Indian Sachem, Momauguin and his sister, Shaumpishuh. On December 11th, another tract of land was purchased from Indian Chief, Montowese. These purchases comprised the land of the New Haven Colony and included the lands on which other future towns would be incorporated. East Haven was incorporated May, 1785.
