Patron must be an East
Haven resident.
If patron has a Connecticut Driver's license or Connecticut state identification card with his/her current East Haven address then no other proof is required.
If patron has a Connecticut Driver's license or Connecticut state identification card with an out-of-town address (does not have the change-of-address sticker issued from Department of Motor Vehicles) then one item pre-printed with the patron's name and East Haven address is required. This could be a gas, phone, utility bill, check, checkbook, bank statement, etc...
If patron has no photo identification at all, then he/she must produce two items pre-printed with name and current East Haven address.
Patron must be 14 years of age or older to get his/her card from the Adult library. Students (age 14-17) must present one form of identification and proof of current address or be accompanied by a parent/guardian with proper ID. The following in the order of preference are acceptable forms of identification: Connecticut Driver's license, school ID, student report card, or school schedule.

Patrons who present a valid Connecticut library card must have the card registered. A second form of identification is required.

Children under 14 years of age must obtain a library card in the Children's Department. A parent/guardian must be present and show proof of East Haven residency. Both child and parent must be present for child to obtain a library card.

East Haven library cards are valid for 3 years. When a card expires, patrons must bring in the expired card and show proof of East Haven residency. Out-of town cards cannot be renewed at the East Haven library, but from the patron's home library (i.e. New Haven cards must be renewed at one of the New Haven libraries).

If an East Haven library card is damaged or lost, there is a $2.00 replacement fee. The charge will be applied if the patron is still on record in the computer. The patron must show identification in order to get a replacement card.
